Victoriano Mendoza Playing in 2017-18 McMurry Wind Ensemble

2017 Dec 22

Victoriano Mendoza of Winters, TX is a member of the 201]7-18 McMurry War Hawk Wind Ensemble.

Housed in the beautifully renovated Bynum Band Hall, the University Bands sponsor the McMurry Marching Band each fall, a year-round Wind Ensemble, a spring-semester Symphonic Band and a summer high-school band camp. Membership in all bands is open to both music majors and non-majors, with band scholarships available to all students enrolled in its ensembles.

The University Bands have been an integral part of student life at McMurry University throughout its entire history. Active since 1946, when reorganized by legendary director Raymond T. "Prof" Bynum, the McMurry Bands have provided a musical outlet for students from across campus. Additionally, they have contributed outstanding musical performances for events on campus, in the Abilene community, and its surrounding areas.

The McMurry University band and choir will perform at New York's Carnegie Hall on March 15, 2018. The two groups will travel to New York City for a four-day residency, and share the stage for a solo concert performance in Carnegie's main performance venue, the Isaac Stern Auditorium.

The McMurry band and choir programs were established in 1923, and will celebrate their 95th anniversaries along with McMurry University in 2018. The McMurry concert band, the Wind Ensemble, is directed by Dr. David Robinson, director of bands. Dr. Robinson is in his fifth year at McMurry; this is his second appearance at Carnegie Hall. The Chanters are directed by Dr. David Wallis, director of choral activities. Dr. Wallis is currently the chair of the music department and has been with McMurry for eight years. This will be the second ensemble he has brought to Carnegie Hall.

Located in midtown Manhattan, Carnegie Hall is home to three performing spaces. Opened in 1891, the venue is one of the most prestigious concert locations in the world and has hosted more than 46,000 performances. Carnegie Hall was designated a National Historical Landmark in 1962.
