Tiyoshi Hopes Receives American Southwest Conference Honor

2018 Jan 30

McMurry University track scholar-athlete Tiyoshi Hopes of Abilene, TX received American Southwest Conference track and field honors.

McMurry University's indoor track and field program earned a pair of weekly honors from the American Southwest Conference, it was announced by the league office. A pair of freshmen - women's runner Josie Drury (Alvarado, Texas/Alvarado H.S.) and men's high jumper Tiyoshi Hopes (Abilene, Texas/Cooper H.S.) - were both recognized by the ASC for their work at last weekend's Pittsburg State (Kan.) Invitational.

Drury earned the ASC Women's Track Athlete of the Week after posting a school-record time in the 600-yard run. Drury was clocked at 1:30.23 minutes, eclipsing the previous best .17 seconds (set by Shanita Coleman at Texas Tech in 2015), and also earning the top ASC time in the event this season. Drury also ran the anchor leg of McM's 4x400 relay team, which won its heat and registered the top time in the ASC this season (4:08.35), as well.

Hopes was the ASC Men's Field Athlete of the Week after clearing 1.94 meters (6'-4.25"), the top effort among ASC competitors this season and fourth-best height in the regional rankings. Hopes placed 11th in the high jump and also ran a leg on the War Hawks 4x400 relay team at the Pittsburg State meet.
