Skyler Reyna Named NCCAA Scholar-Athlete of the Week for Women's Hoops

2017 Feb 1

McMurry University women's basketball freshman forward Skyler Reyna of San Antonio TX has been named as the National Christian College Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the period ending January 29, it was announced by the national office.

Reyna averaged a double-double of 18.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game last week, as McM split a pair of games. Reyna shot 44.4 percent from the field and made 11-of-18 free throws (61.1 percent), also averaging 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Reyna led the War Hawks' upset of ASC West second-place team UMHB with an effort of 20 points and 14 rebounds, notching her team-leading fifth double-double of the season, including the game-winning three-point basket with five seconds left in the game. McMurry's win over UMHB snapped a six-game skid for the War Hawks and handed the Cru its first home loss of the season (and snapped a 12-game home win streak for UMHB dating back to last season). It was also McM's first win in Belton since Feb. 11, 2012. In the loss at Concordia University-Texas, Reyna also had a team-leading 17 points and nine rebounds.
