Shantel Thomas Earns ASC Track Honor

McMurry University scholar-athlete Shantel Thomas of Highlands, TX, has been chosen for the American Southwest Conference "Athlete of the Week" award.

Thomas personally had a hand – or perhaps more accurately a foot - in scoring 46 of McM's 200 points amassed as a team, winning two individual event and was a part of both winning relays, as well. In the 100 hurdles, Thomas won by more than a full second with a time of 14.68 seconds and then topped a field of 12 runners in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.66). She also placed third in the women’s long jump – out of 20 competitors – with a leap of 5.24 meters. In the relays, Thomas ran the lead leg for both winning efforts. The 4x100 quartet ran a time of 48.53 seconds, while the 4x400 crossed the line at 4:08.22 minutes.
