Neah Garza Earns ASC Post-Season Honors

McMurry University men's tennis player Neah Garza of Abilene, TX has honored by the American Southwest Conference.

A total of seven McMurry University women's tennis players have earned post-season honors from the American Southwest Conference, it was announced today by the league office. The War Hawks women will be participating in the National Christian College Athletic Association championships on May 8-11 in Mobile, Alabama.

Among those honored was senior Symphony Munoz, who was the ASC West Division tri-Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year award winner. Munoz will be graduating from McM in just three years. She shared the award withMaddie Hammond of Hardin-Simmons and Sophie Farmer of UT-Dallas.

A pair of McMurry juniors - Zayra Gomez and Briana Perez - were honored on the first team for both the All-ASC team, as well as the All-West Division squad. Gomez (12-5) and Perez (12-6) both shared the team lead for victories, also posting identical 5-1 marks within divisional action. Gomez was honored at Flight 3 singles and Perez at Flight 4 singles.

Gomez and Perez were also both recognized - along with their respective partners - for doubles play on the All-ASC West Division second team. Gomez teamed with freshman Claire Huffine at Flight 2 doubles, posting a 5-1 record in pairs play. Perez and Kaitlyn Roberts were also 5-1 in the ASC West at Flight 3 doubles.

Huffine was also named second team All-ASC West second team at Flight 2 singles. Huffine was 12-6 in singles play, 5-1 in the division.

Junior Samantha Ritz, the War Hawks Flight 1 singles player, was also a second team All-ASC West pick. Ritz, who also shared the team lead in wins with Gomez, Perez and Huffine, was 12-6 and 5-1 in the ASC West, as well.

Sophomore Neah Garza was the final McM player recognized on the All-ASC West list at Flight 6 singles. Garza, posting a 5-1 divisional record, was 9-6 overall in 2018.
