Matthew Chalk Earns ASC Weekly Honor

After a monster week at the plate, McMurry University junior outfielder Matthew Chalk of Crosby, TX has been named as the American Southwest Conference Hitter of the Week for baseball, it has been announced by the league office. Chalk led the War Hawks' series win over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor last week, taking two of three games versus the Crusaders, thanks to a .692 batting average over the weekend.

Chalk had three-consecutive multi-hit games versus UMHB, going 9-for-13 from the plate. In the three games, Chalk went 4-for-5, 2-for-3 and 3-for-3, respectively. Chalk had an on-base average of .733 and a .769 slugging percentage. He drove in three runs, walked twice and was perfect in the outfield in six chances.

On the year, Chalk leads McM with a .378 batting average. He has had a total of 15 multi-hit games in 2018. Chalk is the War Hawks' first ASC Player of the Week award winner in baseball for 2018.

Chalk and his McM teammates will travel to the top-ranked team in NCAA Division III team in the nation - Trinity University - on Tuesday. The War Hawks close out the 2018 campaign with a three-game series this weekend versus crosstown foe Hardin-Simmons University at Walt Driggers Field.
