Lauren Bridwell Performs in McMurry University Theatre Play

2016 Sep 15

Lauren Bridwell of Abilene TX is an actor in McMurry Theatre's first play of the 2016-17 season.

The McMurry University Theatre department is proud to present I Hate Hamlet by Paul Rudnick, directed by David Ainsworth. Performance dates are September 29-October 1 and October 6-8 in the Ryan Little Theatre. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m.

I Hate Hamlet is a whimsical comedy that has something important to say about American ambivalence toward classical theatre in general and Shakespeare in particular. It concerns a young American west-coast actor who, after having acquired popular success in a long-running soap opera, has been reluctantly persuaded by his agent to attempt a greater degree of "legitimacy" by playing Hamlet in New York City's Central Park. As luck would have it, the young actor rents the apartment previously owned by John Barrymore (reputedly the greatest American Hamlet), and the play then borrows a page from Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit: Barrymore's ghost is accidentally conjured up; only the young actor is initially able to see, hear or speak to him; and the ghost may not depart until the young actor embraces the challenge of playing Shakespeare's most demanding role.

Tickets are $10 for general admission. There is a $3 discount on all Thursday night tickets.

For reservations call 325-793-3889 or go by the McMurry Theatre Box Office in the lobby of the Ryan Fine Arts Building. The box office opens two weeks prior to opening night, with students typically manning the kiosk from 3-5 p.m. Tickets also may be reserved online at mcm.edu/theatre.
