Larandall Scroggins Earns ASC Honor

2018 Mar 9

McMurry University men's basketball player Larandall Scroggins of Carrollton, TX has been honored by the American Southwest Conference.

McMurry University men's basketball had a trio of players - LaRandall Scroggins, Zacc Carter and Elijah Johnson - all earn America Southwest Conference (ASC) West Division post-season honors, announced today by the league office. Scroggins was voted second team All-ASC West, Carter honorable mention ASC West and Johnson selected to the All-Freshman team.

Scroggins, a senior from Carrollton, Texas, led the War Hawks in scoring (13.3 p.p.g.) and rebounding (6.4 r.p.g.), as well as field goal percentage (51.4 percent). A four-year starter for McMurry, Scroggins capped his career with four double-doubles and double-figure scoring in 20 of 24 contests in 2017-18.

Scroggins was also the McM team captain. Off the court, Scroggins - a biomedical science major - is the president of McMurry's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Carter, a sophomore from Dallas, averaged 10.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game during his second campaign in the Maroon and White. Carter shot 47.1 percent from the floor and better than 81 percent from the free throw stripe. At just 6-foot-2, he also led the War Hawks in blocked shots with 13.

Johnson, a local product out of Abilene Cooper High School, was McMurry's fourth all-freshman selection in the past two years. Johnson appeared in 18 contests, averaging 4.4 points and 1.1 rebounds per outing. He shot 42 percent from the field, as well.

"I'm really happy for our three guys that were honored by the ASC," McM head coach Zach Pickelman said. "LaRandall was our leader and go-to guy all year and deserves any accolades that come his way. Zacc was consistently our best two-way player and always guarded the other team's best player.

"Zacc and Elijah being honored as a sophomore and freshman, shows that the future is bright for War Hawks basketball."
