Kenneth Mostert of San Angelo TX Selected to 2016 National Trumpet Competition

McMurry junior music major Kenneth Mostert of San Angelo, TX has advanced to the semi-final round of the undergraduate solo division in the 2016 National Trumpet Competition. Mostert's recording was selected as one of 40 semi-finalists out of hundreds of entries.

The 2016 National Trumpet Competition is being held on March 10-12, 2016, at Columbus State University (Georgia). Mostert's performance in the semi-final round is on Friday, March 11 at 2:24 PM. He will be playing the "Trumpet Concerto in A-flat" by Alexander Arutunian.

The National Trumpet Competition is the largest trumpet competition for collegiate students in the United States. The undergraduate solo division is by far the most competitive division of the competition.

Inaugurated in 1992, NTC has provided performing opportunities, master classes, exhibition concerts, historic and commercial exhibits and an educational, supportive environment for nearly 3,000 students

To date, these students have represented 40 states as well six foreign countries. Nearly 100 Artist Faculty members coming from universities and symphony orchestras around the nation have donated their time and talents to judge these fine young players. Artists are chosen from among many of the trumpet world's greatest performers. NTC audiences have been inspired by performances of Canadian Brass, Grammy Award Winner Arturo Sandoval, Maynard Ferguson, Phil Smith, Tim Morrison, Jens Lindemann, Alan Vizzutti and a host of others, many of whom waive their considerable fees to support NTC.

The undergraduate solo division in which Kenny will be competing is by far the most competitive division where only 40 players advance from hundreds of submissions. Kenny has made great strides this year, completing a split Junior recital and performing in all of McMurry's ensembles at the top of the trumpet section.
