McMurry University was one of eight American Southwest Conference member institutions to be recognized by the conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as recipients of ASC-SAAC Team Sportsmanship awards for the spring 2018 sport seasons, it was announced by the league office. The War Hawks' softball and women's track & field teams both earned the honor.

The SAAC Team Sportsmanship award honors the member institution in each ASC championship sport that best displays positive qualities of sportsmanship and fair play from its student-athletes, coaches and fans throughout the season. The spring 2018 awards are presented in baseball, men's golf, women's golf, softball, men's tennis, women's tennis, men's track & field and women's track & field with each of the 13 campus SAACs voting within the sports it sponsors.

It was the first time for both of the McM programs to receive the ASC-SAAC Team Sportsmanship Award. The softball team played its inaugural season in 2018. Women's track & field - co-winners in 2018 (with HSU) - added the Sportsmanship Award, after winning its second-consecutive ASC championship in 2018.

McMurry's softball and women's track & field squads joined the University's women's soccer team in being recognized as an ASC-SAAC Team Sportsmanship Award winner during the 2017-18 season.

The ASC-SAAC Team Sportsmanship Awards were presented for the 11th year during the 2017-18 sport seasons. In all, McMurry teams have earned 17 awards over the years.
