Jordyn Burnell Receives American Southwest Conference Honor

Jordyn Burnell of Sinton, TX received American Southwest Conference volleyball honors.

For the second consecutive season, sophomore Justice McGowan headed the cast of McMurry University volleyball players selected for American Southwest Conference (ASC) post-season awards. In addition to McGowan, junior Odalis Rodriguez, sophomore Jordyn Burnell and junior Jasmine Jones were also recognized from the War Hawks squad.

McM has a 21-7 record and will host the National Christian College Athletic Association Central Region tournament on November 16-18 at Kimbrell Arena.

For the second-consecutive year, McGowan - a middle blocker - was tabbed on both the All-ASC Team (which draws from both divisions of the league), as well as first team All-ASC West Division. McGowan ranks among the ASC leaders attack percentage (#3/.363), kills (#10/2.65 k.p.s.), blocks (#3/1.07 b.p.s.) and points per set (#4/3.37).

The trio of Rodriguez, Burnell and Jones each earned a spot on the All-ASC West second team. Rodriguez, a libero, ranked among the top back row players in the ASC. Rodriguez averaged 4.97 digs per set played, which was second best in the league. She was also ninth in service aces, at 0.32 per set (a total of 32).

Burnell, an outside hitter, finished the 2017 regular season averaging 2.55 kills per set and a .220 attack average. Burnell also amassed 23 aces and 0.38 blocks per set. She was also solid in the back row at 2.76 digs per set.

Jones, also an outside hitter, was No. 9 in the ASC for kills per set (2.67). Jones had a .223 attack average. She averaged 0.97 digs and 0.31 blocks per set for her 90 sets played in 2017.
