Jamie Morgan Participates in McMurry Social Club Fundraising Effort

2015 Dec 10

Jamie Morgan of Collinsville, TX was one of the members of the Alpha Psi Alpha women's social club who participated in this year's annual Huntington's Disease philanthropy fundraiser. The group raised $320 through the event, which this year was a lip sync contest. All proceeds went to the Huntington's Disease Society of America.

One of the AYA alumni is at risk for the disease as both her mother and grandmother had it. She started this philanthropy four years ago on her own and the club adopted the fundraiser soon after.

Huntington's disease (HD) is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person's physical and mental abilities during their prime working years and has no cure. HD is known as the quintessential family disease because every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of carrying the faulty gene. Today, there are approximately 30,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at-risk of inheriting the disease.
