Clayton Pope of Abilene, TX is a member of the McMurry War Hawk men's tennis team.
The following scholar-athletes are members of the McMurry University War Hawk men's tennis team.
With the opening of the 2018 men's tennis season a little over a week away, the McMurry University men's tennis team has been picked third in the American Southwest Conference West division pre-season poll. Additionally, two War Hawks - sophomore Carlos Martinez (Monterrey, Mexico) and senior Clayton Pope (Abilene, Texas) - were named to the ASC West pre-season "watch list" for the division.
Martinez was selected All-ASC - and All-ASC West - first team at Flight 1 singles, while also earning recognition as the ASC West Division "Freshman of the Year." He amassed a team-best singles record of 13-5 and had a 10-match winning streak.
Pope, beginning his fourth year in the Marron & White. Pope appeared in 19 of 20 matches as a junior. Pope went 3-3 in ASC singles.
McMurry was tied with Mary Hardin-Baylor for the No. 3 slot. UT-Dallas was picked first in the ASC West, followed by Hardin-Simmons. UT-Tyler earned the top spot in the ASC East rankings.
The War Hawks open their 2018 slate of matches on Friday, February 2 at East Texas Baptist University.
