McMurry University men's tennis player Clayton Pope of Abilene TX has honored by the American Southwest Conference.

McMurry University sophomore Carlos Martinez (Monterrey, Mexico) headed a quartet of McMurry University players honored with American Southwest Conference post-season awards, announced by the league office. Martinez was named the ASC West Division Player of the Year, after posting a perfect 6-0 divisional record for both flight one singles and doubles.

Martinez compiled a team-leading 15-4 record in singles matches, all at flight one. Overall, Martinez was 11-9 in doubles, as well.

Martinez was not only selected as the top player in the ASC West, but also repeated as a first team choice for the All-ASC and ASC West teams, at No. 1 singles. Additionally, Martinez and doubles partner Clayton Pope (Abilene, Texas) were similarly recognized as first team All-ASC and All-ASC West at No. 1 doubles.

Freshman Joseph Diaz (Fort Stockton, Texas) - playing flight 6 singles - was a second team All-ASC West selection. Diaz had a banner campaign in his first collegiate season, going 11-7 in singles and 3-2 in the ASC West.

Diaz and sophomore teammate Zach Miller (Abilene, Texas) were second team All-ASC West in doubles play, as well. The duo - playing flight three - were 3-2 versus the ASC West.
