Christian Palmer invited to Exhibit in the 2nd Annual "yunomi" Invitational

2015 Nov 4

Christian Palmer of Dallas, a senior studio art and theatre major, was invited to exhibit in the 2nd Annual "yunomi" Invitational in the Raymond Avenue Gallery in St Paul, Minnesota, with 34 Minnesota artists. Yunomi is a form of teacup, typically made from a ceramic material, being taller than wide, with a trimmed or turned foot for drinking tea or hot water and often used in Minnesota for drinking wine.

One of the 35 featured artists is Christian Palmer's mentor, Warren MacKenzie, who was strongly influenced by Soetsu Yanagi and Shoji Hamada and brought Japanese techniques and ideas home to Minnesota. These Japanese traditions were passed on to MacKenzie's students and emulators. The potters in this exhibition have been influenced to varying degrees by the "Minge-sota" movement (Mingei is a reference to the Japanese folk art movement created by Yanagi) initiated by the Japanese-influenced work of Warren Mackenzie.

The exhibit is from November 6 through December 19, 2015.
