2017 May 12

McMurry athlete Carlos Martinez Hamdan of Gomez Palacio, Durango, was one of four McMurry University men's tennis players who received American Southwest Conference 2017 post-season honors, it has been announced.

Heading the cast of honorees from head coach Mark Hathorn's team was freshman Carlos Martinez (Monterrey, Mexico). Martinez was selected to the All-ASC team at Flight 1 singles, after amassing a 5-1 mark versus conference foes. He was the lone McM representative on the All-ASC squad.

In the ASC West Division awards, Martinez was selected as the "Freshman of the Year," as well as first team ASC All-West Division at Flight 1 singles. Martinez had an overall record of 13-5 in 2017, leading the War Hawks in singles victories and also sporting a 10-match win streak during the season.

Two other War Hawks - Travis Gough (Aledo, Texas) and Zach Miller (Abilene, Texas) - both earned second team ASC All-West Division recognition. Gough was tabbed at Flight 3 singles and Miller at Flight 6 singles.
