Bethany Everett Earns Third ASC Weekly Honor

2018 Apr 23

McMurry University women's track and field standout Bethany Everett of Stratford TX added another honor after her career-best effort in the hammer throw last weekend, earning the American Southwest Conference's (ASC) Field Events Athlete of the Week. Everett was also honored - on the national level - as the Student-Athlete of the Week by the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), as she placed second versus a largely NCAA Division II field at the East Texas Invitational on Saturday.

It was also Everett's third ASC Athlete of the Week honor.

"Beth has worked relentlessly to better herself this year," McMurry head coach Brad Parris said. "There is no doubt that an even bigger throw is coming."

On her final throw at the East Texas Invitational, Everett extended her NCCAA and ASC-leading mark in the hammer with a toss of 50.52 meters (165'-09"). That effort also tops the NCAA DIII South/Southwest Region, while ranking No. 18 nationally for NCAA DIII. The junior thrower also had a distance of 38.89 meters in the discus (placing seventh).
