Bethany Everett Earns NCCAA Scholar-Athlete Status

McMurry University women's track and field standout Bethany Everett of Stratford, TX has received National Christian College Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete status.

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - McMurry University women's track and field standouts Bethany Everett (Stratford, Texas) and Savannah Freeman (Mart, Texas) recently made their mark at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Outdoor Championships, helping McM to a second place national finish. But the War Hawks' duo showed that they give all-American efforts in the classroom, as well, earning recognition as NCCAA Scholar-Athletes for 2017-18.

NCCAA Scholar-Athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student and completed at least one term at the institution. In addition to being a letterwinner on their team, each recipient must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.40 on a 4.00 scale.

Everett and Freeman - both juniors - each brought home medals from the recently-completed NCCAA championship meet. Everett gave a double-gold medal performance, winning both the hammer throw and the discus events. She is a biomedical science major.

Freeman was the bronze medalist in the women's javelin, with a mark of 34.30 meters. Freeman was also a qualifier in the pole vault at the NCCAA championships, but did not place. She is majoring in exercise science and human performance.
